Map Tokyo, London and New York hours with region-specific, daylight-saving-aware timezones. Read the active focus session’s high, low, midpoint, opening range, prior range and live status in one view.
Put “when” directly on the price chart
The script checks whether each chart bar falls inside the configured Tokyo, London and New York sessions, then draws session context and the active focus-session structure. In the current public source, overlap uses a dedicated background and focus follows the fixed priority New York → London → Tokyo.
What it visualizes
Historical or recent session shading, an overlap shade, current focus high/low/midpoint, an opening range, prior focus high/low and a table with regional clocks and time to the next open or close.
How it works
Each session passes its Hours, Timezone and Days to TradingView’s time engine. Both bar open and bar close are checked. The script does not request higher-timeframe or future data.
Regional time handling
Tokyo, London and New York use separate IANA timezones, allowing London and New York to follow local daylight-saving changes.
Fixed focus priority
When sessions overlap, the background uses the Overlap color and one focus is selected in the order New York, London, then Tokyo.
Developing session structure
Current high, low, midpoint and opening range update while the focus session develops; prior high/low can remain as temporary reference rails.
Add it to TradingView
Add the public script to a chart and identify every drawing in the default configuration first. Change only one input at a time.
Tokyo London New York Session Highlighter
Open the public Tokyo London New York Session Highlighter page and add it to a TradingView chart. No SG Group account is required.
- Open the “Use on TradingView” link below.
- Select “Use on chart” on TradingView to add the script to your chart.
- Open the gear icon, then Settings → Inputs, and observe the default configuration first.
- Change one input at a time for the symbol and timeframe you are studying.
Prevent misreads when indicators overlap
Overlapping lines, bands, backgrounds or tables can be duplicate drawings of the same kind of information. Never treat visual overlap by itself as stronger evidence or signal agreement. Other session highlighters, opening-range studies and prior-high/low tools can duplicate the same shaded windows and horizontal rails. Do not confuse current focus levels with another tool’s levels.
- Temporarily hide every other background study before identifying Show session background highlight.
- Turn off either Current focus high/low, Midpoint, Opening range or Previous focus high/low when another tool supplies the same level type.
- Hide Show session list or change Position so the dashboard does not cover another table.
- Fixed New York focus during overlap is a display rule, not a claim that one market is stronger.
A practical reading order
Do not turn one value or color into a conclusion. Check the condition, persistence and relationship to price in order.
Identify the active shading
Start with the active session or overlap background. Color alone says nothing about price direction.
Verify the focus rails
Match the high, low, midpoint and opening range to the FOCUS shown in the table.
Check clock and remaining time
Use Local and Next, then separately verify holidays, shortened trading and data gaps that the configured schedule cannot detect.
Status and display terms
The session is active; N is elapsed session time, not market strength.
The configured session is inactive; it does not explain a holiday or missing feed.
Time remaining until the next configured open or close.
The session supplying the current rails; overlap priority is fixed to New York, London, Tokyo.
Current range relative to a recent session-range average, not a forecast.

Informational session and reference events
Notifications report time events and optional reference touches. The current source contains no directional trade alert.
- Pre-open, start, pre-close and end events for Tokyo, London and New York.

Not a buy/sell signal
This tool is for analysis and visualization. It is not investment advice, a trade recommendation, a forecast, or a promise of profit or accuracy. Results depend on inputs, symbol, timeframe, and data feed. You remain responsible for every trading decision.
Intraday only
Daily and higher charts show an information message instead of the session shading and rails. A period with no bars cannot be shaded.
No automatic market calendar
Holidays, shortened days, exchange breaks and broker-specific sessions are not detected. Verify Hours, Timezone and Days.
Current source differs from older copy
Version 3.6 has no start/end marker input and no selectable overlap-priority mode. Dedicated overlap color and fixed focus priority are the current behavior.
A session label does not predict direction or activity. Verify the instrument’s official hours and feed, and never use time-of-day by itself as an entry reason.

Is Tokyo London New York Session Highlighter free to use?
Yes. It is a free, open-source indicator published by SG Group on TradingView. Review TradingView’s terms and the conditions attached to the public script before reuse or redistribution.
Should I change the settings immediately?
Start with the published defaults and observe the drawings and state changes first. Then change one input at a time for the symbol, timeframe and data feed so you can identify what caused each visual change.
Can I display it with other indicators?
Yes, but similar lines, bands, backgrounds and tables can overlap and obscure their source. Isolate each indicator first and hide duplicate components. Visual overlap alone is not stronger evidence or signal agreement.
Does the display provide trade signals?
No. It is analysis and visualization context consistent with the public description. It does not provide entries, exits, targets, stops, price forecasts, or promises of profit, win rate or accuracy.
Does it adjust for daylight-saving time?
Regional IANA timezones let London and New York follow local clock changes. Exchange holidays, shortened days and broker-specific schedules still require separate verification.
