01 — Overview

Keep cloud direction, thickness and motion separate

Classical Tenkan, Kijun and Senkou Span A/B form the cloud. Absolute A–B width is normalized, ranked inside its own history and smoothed for Expanding, Contracting or Stable motion with hysteresis. The current interface is English-only and has no Language input.

What it visualizes

Tenkan, Kijun, optional Chikou, projected cloud edges and fill, percentile-driven opacity, a dense inner core, expansion spine, three-line readout and confirmed future-twist and thin-seam events.

How it works

New spans are plotted forward by Displacement without accessing future data. Price-versus-cloud tests use historically shifted spans aligned to the current bar. Thin seams require right-side pivot confirmation, so delay is intentional.

Relative thickness rank

ATR, Percent or Raw normalized thickness is ranked inside Percentile lookback and classified from Thin to Extreme.

Motion hysteresis

Thickness change enters Expanding or Contracting beyond sensitivity and returns to Stable at a smaller release threshold.

Confirmed events

Future-cloud twists and filtered thin seams use confirmed-bar logic. Allow before confirmation only changes marker placement after confirmation.

02 — Install and start

Add it to TradingView

Add the public script to a chart and identify every drawing in the default configuration first. Change only one input at a time.

Ichimoku Cloud Thickness Spectrum

Open the public Ichimoku Cloud Thickness Spectrum page and add it to a TradingView chart. No SG Group account is required.

  1. Open the “Use on TradingView” link below.
  2. Select “Use on chart” on TradingView to add the script to your chart.
  3. Open the gear icon, then Settings → Inputs, and observe the default configuration first.
  4. Change one input at a time for the symbol and timeframe you are studying.

Prevent misreads when indicators overlap

Overlapping lines, bands, backgrounds or tables can be duplicate drawings of the same kind of information. Never treat visual overlap by itself as stronger evidence or signal agreement. TradingView built-in Ichimoku or another cloud study can duplicate Tenkan, Kijun, Span A/B and the cloud almost exactly. Remove that duplication before any interpretation.

  • Hide built-in Ichimoku, then identify Show Tenkan, Show Kijun, Show cloud and Show Span A and B edges one at a time.
  • Treat Show dense inner core and Show expansion spine as this script’s additional geometry layers.
  • Do not combine Highlight closes inside current cloud with another candle-color study.
  • Shift Show forward thickness readout so it does not cover another future-area label.
03 — How to read it

A practical reading order

Do not turn one value or color into a conclusion. Check the condition, persistence and relationship to price in order.

Identify future-cloud direction

Bullish/Bearish cloud is the Span A/B ordering, not a trade direction.

Check rank and normalized thickness

P-values are relative to this symbol, timeframe, configuration and history—not a cross-market strength score.

Read motion and bar status

Separate Expanding/Contracting/Stable from Live/Confirmed and do not treat an open-bar update as a confirmed event.

Status and display terms

Thin / Balanced / Thick / Extreme

Historical rank of current cloud width, not universal strength.

Expanding / Contracting / Stable

Smoothed one-bar thickness motion with hysteresis.

Bullish cloud / Bearish cloud

Projected Span A is above/equal to / below Span B; not a trade instruction.

P10 / P90

Percentile inside the same configured history, not a cross-market score.

Live / Confirmed

The readout is on an open realtime bar / a confirmed bar.

Thin-cloud seam

A locally thin point confirmed by pivot, prominence and spacing rules; confirmation is delayed.

Thick or Extreme does not guarantee support, resistance or continuation. Thin does not forecast a breakout.

Rank depends on history

P-values are configuration-specific. Warm-up, non-time-based charts and sparse data affect stability.

Open bars update

Tenkan, Kijun, spans, opacity and motion can change until the realtime bar closes.

Important

Do not count Bullish cloud, Thick and Expanding as three independent bullish reasons. They are related descriptions of the same cloud geometry.

Is Ichimoku Cloud Thickness Spectrum free to use?

Yes. It is a free, open-source indicator published by SG Group on TradingView. Review TradingView’s terms and the conditions attached to the public script before reuse or redistribution.

Should I change the settings immediately?

Start with the published defaults and observe the drawings and state changes first. Then change one input at a time for the symbol, timeframe and data feed so you can identify what caused each visual change.

Can I display it with other indicators?

Yes, but similar lines, bands, backgrounds and tables can overlap and obscure their source. Isolate each indicator first and hide duplicate components. Visual overlap alone is not stronger evidence or signal agreement.

Does the display provide trade signals?

No. It is analysis and visualization context consistent with the public description. It does not provide entries, exits, targets, stops, price forecasts, or promises of profit, win rate or accuracy.

Does plotting the cloud forward use future data?

No. Spans calculated from available bars are displayed at a future offset. Price-versus-cloud checks use historically calculated spans aligned to the current bar.
